Times have passed : in 2007, Emma released The Art & the Evil, her debut record, under the nickname Emmon. The day after tomorrow, her second record will be out. It’s called Closet Wanderings and you can buy it there. To sum it up in three words, I would say : fun, fun, fun.
I confess, at first, it is always weird for me to dive into this kind of sound since it is very different to the French electro I’m used to (Daft Punk, Air, Vitalic, Justice). Let’s say that French electro is quite influenced by rock music while Swedish electro finds its roots into pop music. It even seems to have become a Swedish brand : Juvelen or Karin Ström sound this way too. A little old-fashioned for me then, but very charming as well. Also, the whole record will make you want to dance and that’s the whole point of dance music, isn’t it?

La première fois que j’ai croisé Emma Nylén, elle se tenait derrière les claviers du groupe de pop Paris. Nous étions à Allhuset, dans l’Université de Stockholm et le concert était franchement réussi. Le premier album de Paris venait de sortir. Si je me souviens bien, cela devait être en janvier 2004.
De l’eau a coulé sous les ponts de Stockholm depuis. Emma a pondu en 2007 The Art & the Evil, son premier disque, sous le pseudo Emmon. Après-demain, sort en Suède sa deuxième réalisation. Le disque s’intitule Closet Wanderings, vous pouvez l’acheter ici. Pour le résumer en trois mots, je dirais : fun, fun, fun.
J’avoue qu’il m’est au début toujours un peu difficile de plonger dans ce genre de son, car c’est à des années lumières de l’électro française à laquelle je suis habitué (Daft Punk, Air, Vitalic, Justice). Disons que là où nos Frenchies tirent leurs influences dans le rock, les Suédois trouvent leurs racines dans la pop. Ca en devient une marque très reconnaissable : Juvelen ou Karin Ström sonnent à peu près pareil. Un poil old-school donc, mais sacrément charmant aussi. Et puis, l’album entier donne envie de danser, ce qui, me semble-t-il, est la raison d’être de la dance music.
