BEST OF 2011 – MY TOP 20 FAVOURITE SONGS (16-20)

16, 17, 18, 19, 20

You cannot compare potatoes and mushrooms. Music is not a competition. I know, I know. Also, why making a top 20 list when next week I will change my mind? And yes, obviously, I’m gonna forget super great songs (sorry for the artists). But, hey, it’s fun to make a top 20! So here you go, my favourite Swedish songs of 2011. Actually, I realize most of them are quite unknown.

Today numbers 16 to 20. Tomorrow 11 to 15… stay tuned!

16/ CHRISTOFFER ROTH – A new kind of love

The perfect pop song. Verse, chorus, verse. Great guitar lines. Every time I listen to it I clap my hands and look stupid. But it makes me happy.

17/ ZAU GLÜCK – Anything you want

Can you make a great song with only three words? Yes. I mean, yes if you are young and sharp. Zau Glück are. They already released a couple of simple songs like Anything you want. Promising kids. They could repeat “Anything you want” all over and over again, I would listen. This is definitely not music for Pitchfork or all those intellectual magazines. This is just straight fun. And fun is important, right?

18/ RED MOON – Suspicious

Two sisters. A red Moon and a stunning EP released for free this year. Probably the most mysterious band I listened to this year. I wrote a first post about them in November 2006. Then they disappeared. In 2011 they went back. Please keep it on and do not disappear again. Red Moon never released a bad song and this Suspicious is probably their best one. If you want some dark atmosphere, please listen.

19/ THE CULTURE IN MEMORIAM – Run Emelie

The best Swedish song with violins this year. Music with personnality. The kind of not typical Swedish pop music I love.

20/ KOKO – If I could win

Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.

Sven Johansson and Elina Johansson are not brothers & sisters, but their music family sounds good to me. Not as magical as Dear Euphoria (in which Sven & Elina are producer & singer), Koko is however quite promising. Only two songs have been made public, included this gorgeous If I could win, featuring Elina. This was their debut. What a debut. Looking forward to the album.
