Too much sugar, too much cream, too much chocolate: Magnus Ekelund & Stålet cooks some fat pop full of big chorus, ecstatic vocals and all. Usually, I do hate this kind of music. But here – and I have no idea why – it works.
I confess I discovered this band through their latest album Det definitiva drevet, released today on the always inspired label Teg Publishing. I guess one could sum it up as “Swedish pop music, with Swedish lyrics”. Or just say it sounds a bit like Broder Daniel, if Broder Daniel was not neurasthenic and pumped up with vitamins. Or even admit I reminds me also Kent’s old album Hagnesta Hill. But maybe I can keep it simple writing this is the best piece of pop music come from up north since several months.
