MF/MB – The Big Machine (live video)
NB : this is not a new song, it belongs to their debut album.
MF/MB – Acids (Kriget remix) from their soon to be released album Colossus Premixed.
Once upon the time in the audioblogosphere were unknown tunes from unknown artists. Nowadays, most of popular tracks in the Hype Machine charts are remixes. Well, I have never been into that. I mean, if you’re a band, just make your own music, with your own sound and your own fears.
MF/MB is a great Swedish band which mixes electro, rock and pop in a salad bowl with a tensed atmosphere and/or a dancing beat. Their debut album Folded is one of those records I usually listen to in my ipod when I go to work. The subway ritual, you know. I guess it gives me more energy than corn flakes.
Good news, they’re back, with a new album called Colossus that will be released in several months, on the 1st of March 2013 to be precise. Before that tough, they – or their always smart and brilliant label Adrian Recordings (home of This is head and, lately, of the officially still alive Bear Quartet) – decided to give birth to a remix album called Colossus premixed (out on the 20th of February in Sweden). Yeah, an album that features only remixes from the original songs that will be released in March. You get the point? The remix before the original. The reverse touch. The Alice in wonderland mirror. Now, you can REALLY listen to remixes as proper songs since the original versions do not act like a veil on your mind.
That’s obviously clever. Not surprising. One already was aware that MF/MB was a creative band. They had shot videos for all of the songs of their debut record, and already did a remix album thing called Altered. Released in 2011, it featured remixed songs from them but also from other artists (like the !!! ecstatic remix Jamie, My Intention Are Bass).
Anyway, let’s stay focus: what about this Colossus Premixed? Is it good? Yeah. Does it make you wanna dance? Sometimes. Does it make you wanna chill out? Sometimes. Does it make you wanna kill yourself? Sometimes. All in all, it gave me a strong LCD Soundsystem feeling with a little Joy Division/The Cure dark twist in the background. And dancing beats. And dreamy atmospheres. And a mix of coherence and heterogeneity. And Acids remixed by Kriget (the uncompromising band with Per Nordmark). The shortest song of the album. The latest one in the track list. The “punkest” one. The most furious one, at least. Just listen to it in this post. Then get sober. Or rewind if you want to keep it high.
Oh, one last thing before I go: since I have NEVER found a remix album better than the original one, I guess Colossus will be fucking colossal. And how the crazy video in this post shows, it might sound more rock than this “premixed” electro shot.Tweet
